Zagreb Airport Train Transfers

Upon arrival at Zagreb Airport (ZAG), passengers can choose from several ground transportation services, including rental cars, taxis, rideshares, hotel shuttle services, and buses.

The distance between the airport and the city is about 10 kilometers so getting to Zagreb is possible with multiple ways of transport.

The airport does not have a direct connection to the railway system. However, a railway connection is available at Zagreb Glavni Kolodvor (Croatian for Zagreb Main Train Station) near downtown.

The taxi fare to the city center is approximately €24.00 (HRK 180) for a ride with up to 4 passengers, and the journey duration is 30 minutes. The final fare may differ as taxis at Zagreb Airport are metered.

The public bus leaves roughly every 35 minutes during the day, and a one-way ticket costs €0.5 (HRK 4) for a single ride lasting up to 30 minutes and €0.9 (HRK 7) for rides up to 60 minutes.

Note: Being officially part of the EU might still make you wonder what is the currency in Croatia. The Euro is widely used, but the Croatian Kuna (HRK) is still its official currency until the beginning of 2023.

Zagreb ZET (Zagrebački Električni Tramvaj)

Zagreb’s public transportation system is called ZET, short for Zagrebački Električni Tramvaj.

It is made up primarily of buses and trams that zig zag throughout the city and extend beyond neighboring cities, including Velika Gorica (the airport location). The system is extensive with 18 tram lines.

Zagreb is a very walkable city, so one could easily live or visit without a car. Trams run 24 hours a day, although not all lines run all the time.

  • 14 tram lines (1-7, 9, 11-15, and 17) run daily from 4:00 AM to 12:00 Midnight
  • 4 tram lines (31-34) run nightly from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 AM.
