Buses from Zagreb Airport with Bus Routes and Times

Upon arrival at Zagreb Airport (ZAG), passengers can choose from several ground transportation services, including rental cars, taxis, rideshares, hotel shuttle services, and buses.

The distance between the airport and the city is about 10 kilometers so getting to Zagreb is possible with multiple ways of transport.

Note: Being officially part of the EU might still make you wonder what is the currency in Croatia. The Euro is widely used, but the Croatian Kuna (HRK) is still its official currency until the beginning of 2023.

The airport in Zagreb is connected to the main bus station in Zagreb by direct airport bus lines whose schedule is adjusted to the flight schedule.

The main bus station in Zagreb is the biggest in Croatia and has excellent connections with almost all other cities.

The only one you could use is Bus No. 290, which connects Velika Gorica, the airport, and Kvaternikov (Kvaternik Square in the center).

Zagreb Bus 290

If you prefer to travel by public transport, you can board Bus No. 290 with directions to Kvaternikov Square, a central transport hub in downtown Zagreb.

The public bus leaves roughly every 35 minutes during the day, and a single-ticket costs €0.5 (HRK 4) for a single ride lasting up to 30 minutes and €0.9 (HRK 7) for rides up to 60 minutes.

Tickets are €4 (HRK 30), and Pleso Prijevoz shuttle buses leave every 30 minutes between 6.00 AM -10.30 PM and whenever a flight arrives during the late-night hours.

If you want to reach the Central Zagreb Train Station, Zagreb Glavni Kolodvor, you need to take tram line 13 from Kvaternikov Square and tram line 2 from the Zagreb Central Bus Station.

Zagreb ZET (Zagrebački Električni Tramvaj)

Zagreb’s public transportation system is called ZET, short for Zagrebački Električni Tramvaj.

It is made up primarily of buses and trams that zig zag throughout the city and extend beyond to neighboring cities, including Velika Gorica where the airport is located.

The system has 117 buses. Zagreb is a walkable city, so one could easily live or visit without a car. Buses run 24 hours a day, although not all lines run all the time.

  • 113 buses run daily from 4:00 AM to 12:00 Midnight
  • 4 buses (116, 172, 212, 268) run nightly from 12:00 Midnight 4:00 AM.

Croatia Airlines Airport Bus

The best option for inexpensive transfers between the city center and the airport is the Croatia Airlines bus.

The timetable corresponds with arrivals and departures for Croatia Airlines but is open to everyone. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes.

The cost is 35 kuna per person each way, or 40 kuna for a same-day round trip (if, for example, you have a long layover).

You can purchase your ticket on the bus in cash.

The bus picks up and drops off outside Arrival at the airport. The bus will then make short stops if requested on its way to the main bus station in Zagreb.

The final destination is Autobusni Kolodvor in central Zagreb, which is only a 10-minute walk from the main train station.

From the bus station, you can then pick up local buses and trams.
